THE HEATWAVE CONTINUES

ANOTHER HEATWAVE IS HITTING OUR STATE AGAIN…WE HAD ALMOST A WEEK OF MUCH MILDER TEMPS AND TO PUT A DOONA ON AT NIGHT WAS SO NICE..BUT IT’S BACK.. LAST NIGHT WAS MUGGY AND STIFLING AND AS I TYPE THIS I AM LITERALLY DRIPPING SWEAT! IT’S 33C AND IT’S 10.00PM…LOOKS LIKE ANOTHER NIGHT OF PILLOW FLIPPING.. NOW I KNOW I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO FLIPS THEIR PILLOW OVER TO THE COOLER SIDE..THEN FLIPS IT BACK AND SO IT GOES AN EVENING OF PILLOW FLIPPING TOSSING SWEATING AND GENERAL UNREST.. THE GROUNDS OUTSIDE AND THE WHOLE LANDSCAPE ARE DRY ..BONE DRY..I DROVE TO A LITTLE TOWN CALLED MARYBOROUGH TODAY AND AS FAR AS THE EYE CAN SEE IT’S BROWN GREY OR BROWN.. THERE WAS A FIRE THE OTHER DAY THAT WIPED OUT 350 ODD ACRES..AND THIS ON A WARM TO HOT DAY WITH NO WIND..I KNOW SOME OF YOU ARE BURIED TO THE ARMPITS IN SNOW AND I FEEL GREEN WITH ENVY, AS MUCH AS I HATE BEING COLD AT LEAST I CAN RUG UP, STOKE THE FIRE AND TURN THE ELECTRIC BLANKET ON. THIS IS MIND NUMBING AND OPPRESSIVE HEAT THAT HAS TAKEN ALL MY ENERGY. COMPOUND THAT WITH A VERY BUSY PROJECT I AM WORKING ON WHICH HAS SEEN ME NOT IN BED BEFORE MIDNIGHT MOST NIGHTS AND I AM STARTING TO THINK I SHOULD SIGN UP FOR AN ARCTIC MISSION…. THE NEWS AND FIRE SERVICES INFORM US WE HAVE NO BREAK IN SIGHT..THE INNER CITY MELBOURNE HAS HAD A COOL CHANGE BUT WE WON’T GET IT , WE ARE TOO FAR INLAND. SO I AM TRYING TO KEEP UP WITH BLOGGIES BUT WITH ONE EAR LISTENING TO THE SCANNER ONE EYE LOOKING OUT THE WINDOW AND BOTH HANDS TYPING DAY IN DAY OUT I MAY FALL A TAD BEHIND…AGAIN…. WHY DOES YOUR OWN SWEAT MAKE YOUR EYES BURN??? ARGHHHH… THE ONLY REAL BONUS IS THAT THE SUNSETS AND SUNRISES ARE DIVINE THIS TIME OF YEAR.. THE SUN RISES IN THE MORNING OUT THE FRONT OF OUR PROPERTY AND SETS OUT THE BACK…HERE ARE SOME PICS OF HER BEAUTY ..EVEN IF SHE IS A BIT OF A BEAST AT THE MOMENT! HAVE A GREAT DAY EVERYONE ..

  1. Gosh…sitting here in my house with my heavy sweater on, little space heater going, sixteen degrees outside…..hard to imagine a heatwave but I know how OPPRESSIVE that can be after days and days of it. Stay as cool as you can…..you are getting some lovely photos in spite of the mind-numbing heat!!

      • that is funny! I am never a fan of the cold and prefer the heat any day. We rarely if ever use air conditioning in the summer! Needless to say our heating bills are atrocious! 🙂 Enjoy the cool off!!

  3. I am so sorry your hot temps are back but I laughed because last night I took a photo of our sunset which looks eerily similar to your last photo. If I remember, I will share on Facebook. Also (I didn’t read the comments above so if someone mentioned it already I apologize) there is a pillow you can buy that STAYS COOL! It is called a “cooling pillow” I believe…….I would check on Amazon, I bet it is there. While you are boiling we are below zero with major warnings. xoxoxo

    • How bizarre indeed! I must check this pillow out….drives me batty playing flip the pillow all night!! and you stay safe and warm the images we see are really bad..as much as the heat is hideous at least we can get out to get what we need..snowed in is a different damn thing altogether!

  4. Hmmm…a heat wave doesn’t sound so bad right now! Our temperatures plunged overnight and should stay that way over the next few days. Then, we’ll be back up to 60 degrees Fahrenheit after that. Stay cool, friends! Much love, The Scottie Mom.

  5. Such beautiful photos my friend! One day, I will see it in person…. well at least through mom/dad’s eyes – snorts. Love the sky! Just think sometimes at night, I can be looking up in the sky and you could possibly at the same time – WOW. That just blows this little piggies mind! I wish I could send you some cool air. Can you believe they say *WE* might get snow today. Here. In the south. In the middle of Georgia? It’s a miracle if it happens – snorts. XOXO – Bacon

  10. I think you’d like Ireland! Never too cold or too hot, and rarely dry! Although when it DOES get dry, people set the gorse on fire to clear it. Jerks. I have a fabulous photo due to their selfishness, though. Can’t share it as it is too good and will get stolen!

I like the sunset pic best – I bet you do too, as it means the heat might ease off a bit…

    • I think I would like it too!! and I must confess the gorse is here and gets burnt!! it has too..it’s a massive problem 🙂 I always worry my pics will get stolen…and I love the sunsets ..problem here is it makes no diference to the stinking heat..a crappy sleep but a tad cooler so I am heading to the shops before it heats up..hubby has taken my car for a long trip and I have his..old police panel van..smells like crims and has no air con….arghhhhh

        • Oh they will be and hopefully school holidays are over and they will be quieter!! bogs…ahhhh burn burn burn …good grief…people really don’t think..here even the tree stumps after a bushfire are a problem..the fire goes deep within the stump and like a wick burns underground for the length of the roots only to pop up in a different area and start another damn fire..so even though they appear to be out they aren’t..from what I know of bogs the burning would be similar to tyres..taking a long long time to stop.

          • Yes indeed! And a horrible waste of natural resources. And gets the fire department out – which are NOT volunteers like in most rational countries. Seriously – if I report a fire, I get charged for the call out! Even if I have nothing to do with it! Who the HELL thought that up?

            Like

            • You kidding!! we have MFB who are paid and our CFA who are volunteers…if I report a fire no charge…if the firies come to an illegal fire or burn the person responsible gets charged …. if you stay at a hotel and the fire alarm goes off because you say burnt a chop in a pan in your room..you get charged a call out fee…if I had to call them to our house I wouldn’t….go figure 🙂

              Like

              • Nope. If my chimney catches on fire, I get charged. If I see a neighbour with a unmistakeable chimney fire, and I call it in? I get charged. If I see a bog fire… Yeah. I’d do it from a pay phone but I think they took them all out!

  16. Hi Bev: Sweat stings because there is salt in it…that is why we need to drink alot of water so we do not deplete salt volume in our bodies or we can go into convulsions….ok medical lesson completed!
Now on to the Summer there…we HAVE 8 FEET OF SNOW AS OF TODAY!!!! It is supposed to continue squalling til midnite….roads & highways are closed. No transit; no nothing. Most business closed. Only corner shops are open thankfully as I had to get Nylablue some more Chicken feast….we ran out!!!! NB was on high alert pacing back & forth until i returned with the ‘goods’…now peace & harmony are restored in the household. I wanted to dig out bedroom window for her….ahhhhh no! There is no way I can get to it….now if only I could just send you about a bazillion tonnes of this stuff….that woudl sort the fires out & cool you off. If you want fly on up here…I have a lovely front yard full of snow just waiting for you to make snow angels in!!!!
Talk about weather extremes, lol 😉

  17. Beautiful photos! I hope you get a temperature break soon. It sounds like you’re having weather like Phoenix, AZ in the summer where it often stays above 100F even overnight. But there’s little to no humidity in AZ so I don’t know if you’ve got the humidity to go with your high temps or not. Humid heat is definitely worse. Seems Mother Nature is taking revenge on everyone!

    • Thankyou 🙂 yes we have 95 percent humidity most days..which is actually safer fire wise but yuk!!!! Mother nature is really Menopausal at the moment …and yes she’s being a right cow!!

I am glad it feels a bit cooler…more fire fighters…this is good but I hope they are not actually needed. I have been in touch with Bacon & the crew & Madi’s Mom & they are all atwitter with their 2-4 inches of snow….that is nothing to us here.
I would love to make snow angels with you here!!! We have enough snow to populate Heaven with snow angels….hahaha!!!
There were 2 major fires this week; 1 in Hamilton (wher I used to live) a huge mansion on Undercliffe Avenue in the ritzy part of the city…it was a huge white southern styled mansion…so sad! I lvoed that place. Last nite there was a huge fire in Niagara Falls on Clifton Hill, the tourist part of the city & the building had 4 stores in it….the business & bulidings are worth over $500,000. Cdn dollars…
So cold there the water is freezing as it hits the ground so the firefighters had to sit down, legs out in front of them to hose the building down….craziness everywhere!!!!
Isn’t Winter here & Summer there just great??? LOL

Right now some of our crews are in California where they have been having a drought (and a number of fires set by bushfire arsonists. A neighbor’s son is down there.
Gorgeous pictures! Don’t you love how the smoke from the fires makes the skies so spectacular!
