Springing into the week

Thought i would share with you all some of the spring colours that are arriving here at Samovila..after such a cold Winter and some really nasty frosts it is lovely to see life is coming back into my garden.

We have not had enough rain at all and so i am already watering..it does not bode well for Summer….but we are having some lovely warm days and sunshine and myself and the animals included are making the most of sunpuddles and pretty colours..soon enough it will be hot hot hot and brown…

So let’s spring into the week…

Hellebores also called Christmas roses..rallied after a beating by the frosts

These Ranunculus are all starting to bloom….they were planted mid winter and I thought they had died

Wee little and wee wee little look after my pots on the verandah

Wanted to add a dash of colour in the back while we clean the mess and get the Catio organised..so these will hang along the length of the fence

The beautiful but deadly Euphorbia..the sap is what is used in poison darts! when the centres get little pods they pop out and you wonder what the noise is..but they shoot up everywhere..so I have been pulling them out even in the backyard..nature makes sure she finds a way to procreate!

Irises line the length of the front garden and the back..they are all doing really well despite severe frost bite..i have been pruning all the frost bitten plants and now they are happy again

I planted these daffodils and have had a 100 percent success rate so I am really happy

The mystery fruit tree..with the first little blossom ..small fruit fuzzy like apricots..ripe when green and taste like peaches..we call it the peachnectaapriplum tree …

THIS MORNING STARTED WITH A MYSTERY DISAPPEARANCE OF BASHFUL…SEEMS HE WAS LOOKING FOR BREKKIE..SO SOME TOAST AND STRAWBERRY JAM WAS IN ORDER..

I AM BUSY VERY BUSY SO HE OFFERED TO HELP..I SUGGESTED WE EASE INTO THE DAY HAVE A POKE AROUND OUTSIDE THEN START OUR BAKING…LUCKY FOR US THE SUN WAS OUT..

OUR DAY BEGAN….

MY MONDAY

I AM OFF TO BED,I FORGOT TO MAKE SOMETHING FOR HUBBY FOR A WORK MORNING TEA..

HE SAID NOT TO WORRY BUT I PROMISED SO IT CAME TO PASS THAT NOW AT NEARLY ONE IN THE MORNING I HAVE JUST FINISHED SOME LEMON AND BLUEBERRY FRIANDS..PITY I WON’T GET TO TASTE ONE..

ALSO AT LAST I GOT TWO PICK SOME ROSES..I HAVE WAITED SO LONG IT SEEMS FOR THESE SWEET FLOWERS..THEY ARE PEACE ROSES AND SMELL DIVINE…

I AM YET TO PLANT THE GRANNIES BONNET ( AQUELIGIA) THAT I PICKED UP AT THE SUNDAY MARKET..THEY ARE SO SWEET..

WHAT A LOVELY WAY TO SPEND A DAY…

 

 

TODAY IN WRITING

INSTEAD OF PICTURES I AM GOING TO WRITE ABOUT TODAY.

IT’S SPRING AND TODAY WAS GLORIOUS,THE SUN WAS SHINING AND THE WEATHER WAS QUITE BALMY.

WE HAD A STRONG,VERY STRONG SOUTHERLY WIND  WHICH WHIPPED THE TREES AROUND AND I COULD HEAR THE BRANCHES IN THE GUM TREES RUBBING AGAINST EACH OTHER AND GROANING..A DAY FOR BRANCHES TO FALL.

I SPENT THE DAY WEEDING,SITTING AND TENDING MY MUCH NEGLECTED GARDEN AND ENJOYING THE SUN WHILE THE CATS RUBBED AGAINST MY LEGS AND THE DOGS LAID IN THE SUN LONG ENOUGH TO GET WARMED UP AND THEN RETREATED TO THEIR VERANDAH BEDS.

I WAS A BIT CONCERNED THAT A PLANNED BURN OF 228 HECTARES WAS TAKING PLACE TODAY JUST 19 KM AWAY..ODD CHOICE OF DAYS TO BURN OFF.

I WENT FOR A STROLL AROUND THE PROPERTY AFTER LUNCH TO GIVE MYSELF A BREAK FROM WEEDING,THE DAM HAS FILLED UP A BIT MORE AND I WAS SO EXCITED TO SEE LARGE TADPOLES TWITCHING IN THE WATERS EDGE..THE DAM IS INDEED THEN HEALTHY..AND WHEN THEY BECOME FROGS THE SOUNDS WILL FILL THE BUSH OF AN EVENING…IT’S THE MUSIC OF SUMMER FOR ME,ALONG WITH THE CICADAS AND CRICKETS.

IN THE SUBURBS ALREADY A TIGER SNAKE HAS MADE AN APPEARANCE SO I MUST BE VIGILANT NOW,THE BROWNS WILL START TO MOVE ABOUT LOOKING FOR MATES AND FOOD AND THEY WILL NOT TOLERATE CARELESS FOOTSTEPS IN THE BUSH..THE DAYS OF LETTING THE DOGS RUN FREE AROUND THE YARD WILL STOP AND ON LEAD WALKS WILL BE THE ORDER OF THE DAY.

THE WASHING DRIED QUICKLY WITH THE GUSTY WIND AND NO SIGN OF SMOKE FROM THE BURN,I MUST GET THE SUMMER FIRE PLAN SORTED AND THE ESSENTIALS PACKED AND ORGANISED..THINGS REMOVED FROM THE HOUSE UNTIL THE FIRE SEASON ENDS AND THE CAR PREPARED FOR THE SEASON.

SPRING IT MIGHT BE BUT ALREADY IT’S SHOWING SIGNS OF A NASTY SUMMER..IT’S NEARLY 11.30 AT NIGHT AND IT IS STILL 20 C OUTSIDE..MORE LIKE A SUMMER EVENING.

THE WIND IS STILL BLOWING,THE JASMINE IS STARTING TO FLOWER SO SCENTS ARE FILLING THE AIR,I CAN HEAR THE POBBLEBONK FROGS IN THE NEIGHBOURS DAM DOWN THE FRONT OF OUR PROPERTY..THEY ALWAYS MAKE ME SMILE…FUNNY THINGS THEY ARE..

TOMORROW I WILL WEED OUT THE BACK,ANOTHER NICE DAY IS EXPECTED AND I LOVE THAT I AM NO LONGER FEELING FLU RIDDLED AND CAN GET SOME NORMALITY BACK IN MY LIFE.
