Shop til you drop

Well again it’s time to join Bacon and I in a blog hopping shopping trip..

shopping trolleyjpg

Please do not TRIP on your trip…

Just sayin...

Just sayin…

We enter the arena of wobbly wheels in search of these goodies this week:

Olives..yes I love me an olive…my faves are dried and hard to come by they are more intense in flavour and kind of sweet..but this week I got my next fave..the pitted Kalamata olives..i bought a box once an tried to preserve them myself..it just didn’t happen despite my best daily efforts at rinsing and rebrining..oh well…thanks to the Deli I do not have to go without!

Kalamata Olives

Kalamata Olives

At the deli this week they were $14.99 Aussie dollars a kilo

Next is Room defunk-ifyer..usually this old 60’s baby burns incense..my fave being Frankinsence or White Sage..the Frankinsence reminds me I am sure of a past life in ancient Egypt (and explains my kitty love and various statues).I can close my eyes and imagine I am in front of a pyramid..ahhh
The White Sage I burn when I think there is too much negativity around (see there’s a side to me you may not know)
But when I want a long lasting and gentle smell through the house I burn this bad boy….

Delish

Delish

It’s an Airwick Essential oil candle (apple and cinnamon this week )
And it cost $6.26 Aus dollars this week on special saving about $2.00

Next is Lettuce..now may fave is cos or I think my American friends call it Romaine? but they were not available..ironic winter is the best time to grow lettuce and summer is when we want it.
So I settled for the much underrated Iceberg..which as a child I used to sprinkle sugar on the leaves and eat..ewwww.go figure!

Sorry I ripped into it for a sanga:)

Sorry I ripped into it for a sanga:)

And this lettuce this week cost a ridiculous $2.99 Aus Dollars! nuts!

The next item was light globes..pretty much all we can get are energy efficient..which cost a bomb and despite the claims of super long life..die well before they should..of course being warrantied you can get a replacement as long as you can find the receipt..which we now put into the empty box..so we have a cupboard full of empty boxes..this will end up an episode of hoarders..just sayin…

Let there be light

Let there be light

Since we oddly did not need one for a change I have no correct price but they run at about $10.00 Aussie dollars i think..
And now the Random item..

Quinoa

Quinoa

Yes Quinoa..i love this stuff..i use it as much the same way as couscous but the various colours are a super delish alternative..
I can add anything it cooks up beautifully and is super good for you..because they say it is bwahaah.

It costs $19.90 Aussie dollars a kilo which has come down a bit since all the cool folk started to cotton on to it..amazing how expensive things are when they are unpopular.
But then there are now many many Coeliacs now and the Gluten free products are still rudely expensive!

So there you go my list done..being absent so much i thank Bacon again for being a stalwart at the shopping blog post..and now..time to put the feet up and have an olive..with a glass…and maybe some Vermouth…
Thanks again for joining the shop til you drop blog hop and have fun checking out everyones carts 🙂 loves Fozziemum x

      • Crikey …… you think you’re older than DIRT!!!!!!! I’d hate to think what my Mum’s older than. She’s got almost 20years on you. I don’t know how she gets around but she’s pretty fit, thank goodness. She can still out-walk her daughters despite the arthritis. Just as well cause I LOVE long walks in the bush or at the beach.

  4. Owwww! Toe injuries can be so painful – and they do tend to take ages to get back to normal. Hope yours is feeling 100% soon! It’s great seeing what grocery items cost in other parts of the world and in your neck of the woods, Fozzie Mum. I know a place where you can get iceberg lettuce for free at the moment – yes, our veggie patch – and free only if you don’t count the initial cost of seedlings, water and various organic fertilisers! Thank-you also you wonderful lady for your beautiful comment on my blog today. I have always regarded you very highly, but now I know you have two older children AND twins, you have instantly reached legend status in my books!! xoxoxoxoxox

  7. Ouchie on the toey. Come on you can tell us the truth. Dad says that you got a boo-boo on your toe because Mr Fozzie was chasing you around the bedroom. Is that true my friend? Snorts.
Mommy LOVES her some olives and she shares them with us. They are so delicious. And it is so very entertaining to see the cats with olives. They go wild! It’s too cute to watch. And those light bulbs. OMP! They are taking away from my kibbles they are so costly! XOXO – Bacon

  8. 54?! Pfft, you sweet young thing-I whistled past 54 ages ago! I too love quinoa…that’s some good stuff and so versatile–you can go sweet or savory and it’s all good. Have you used Arnica on the toesey? Makes all the difference in the world on healing and reducing bruises. As klutzy and thin skinned as I am, I’d be completely lost without it. Have a terrific weekend! 🙂

  13. Ouch . . . your toe! You know I would give it Golden Retreiver kisses and make it all better if I were there. Sometimes Mommy thinks she’s going to have to get rotator cuff surgery when she gets one of those disagreeable carts. My humans enjoyed the shopping trip this month . . . and adding the olives to their martinis. 😉 Here’s a link to my post:

  14. Toe looks very ouch Bev. I shopped a couple of days ago after a week or so of using up my supplies as it was just too hot and humid to go anywhere or hardly bothering to eat. The last week has been much cooler and a bit rainy. I decided to go to church outreach store for something different which I only do occasionally. Anyone can buy 2 boxes food for $30 each evening. Food is donated by grocery stores and local farmers excess produce. You get 1 box of beautiful fresh fruit and vegies and 1 big box groceries and meat, diary products. I then immediately go to my friend’s house and give her all the stuff I don’t eat and which they do, meat and processed foods and I keep the rest. I like the fact that it’s a bit of a surprise and different foods when I get bored with shopping and I do like all the fruit and vegies.
In my friend’s street there is a place with huge front yard, open truck parked on lawn which is an honesty system selling their farm produce. So I often buy their fruit and I could not resist a box 24 beautiful mangoes $10. So daily meals consist of frozen yogurt and fruit, no cooking, yay!

  16. Used to frequent the Vic markets back in my student days. Loved it. I have not visited the city in years as my family all lives on the coast now and the occasional times I do go South have not had chance to go to the city. Would love just to be an anonymous tourist there for a week or so. I know it has changed so much since when I lived there.

    • It has changed so much in 3 years! sorry for the late reply..busy and been dealing with computer stuff and programs for pics and on steroids…so my time is spent eating hahahhaa 🙂 I was so disappointed with the market..we used to go regularly even though it was a big drive..and now…well don’t know what changed..the deli’s inside are still fab..but the fruit and veg..and meat and fish..not too crash hot…oh well I guess we have good stuff in the rural areas and the city folk get rubbish 🙂 loves Bev xx

      • Yes I’ve made a bit of an effort lately to go to the local markets and get lovely fresh produce straight from local growers. Keep it local and cut out the middle man.
A pity about the Vic market. It’s sounding a bit sanitised now.
I’m remembering days when it was very unglamourous and very colourful.

        Liked by 1 person

        • I agree with you..yes lost the hustle bustle and bartering fun…apparently to get the produce is so costly now that prices just aren’t that good..maybe why the feeling is gone 😦

          Like

          • Yes you just reminded me, that when I was living Northern N.S.W. fab markets, that when they applied restrictions and tried to clean them up, they became very boring. Markets are an earthy phenomena and always have been through history. I think that’s why people like them. They don’t work well with too many restrictions.
