Many colours Monday

I had fun going back through my old files and finding the pictures from the Castlemaine State Fair..i thought I would share some more of the day with you all.
To explain a bit we live in an area that was predominant in Apple Orchards..so this day live trees dotted the park ..apples amd pears..people could just grab one as they liked..these trees were later sold as five year old trees and we purchased four!
So the park also had a giant shared lunch table and crates with veggies growing…our own local lad Beau a former Master Chef contestant ( and one of the apple pie baking judges who gave me my best apple pie and best apple cake medals just sayin…)had a cook off and of course their was plenty of music and dance performances and art and crafts..
Please enjoy more colour and fun at our little towns fair ..

COUNTRY WOMENS ASSOCIATION CONCERT DAY

Today we had the concert with the CWA for the public and other CWA groups..

What a hoot of a day..these lovely ladies of whom I have recently joined are amazing! they are mostly in their 70’s and 80’s and have a spirit and energy that puts me to shame!

The whole concept being to raise money for various charities, women’s groups and generally improve the lives of women and families.

For my overseas friends they have a reputation as being some of the best cooks you can find.

These women have been through it all..wars droughts floods rearing children, raising stock, farming and keeping families and the community glued together.

After rehearsals yesterday I headed to the shops..still in my stage gear..strangely didn’t raise an eyebrow!

I was running out of time so just had to be done! Raced home and set about my baking frenzy.

We put an afternoon tea on after the concert so aprons throughout the community were donned! I had already made a little parcel of Vanilla biscuits with vanilla bean icing for the door prize hamper so was kind of organised..

And so I baked a Choc-vanilla cheesecake swirl slice some Cherry macaroons and some White choc orange ganache filled macarons (which could have been better but it rained, apparently the enemy of Macaron baking  is rain ..go figure! )

Then I made a pie for dinner and finally sat down!

My back is caning now..i have been at the CWA organising food ,being a poor thespian ,doing dishes, cleaning but having a ball with my gorgeous ladies!

We had a great turnout 100 seats we set and we needed some more,we got laughs and applause but most of all we did a great combined effort to raise over $1200.00..bravo ladies!

Hope you day was or is as much fun as mine was.

Canine community members

What i love about community festivals is the way the dogs bring their people along to enjoy the day.

I always have time to stop and talk with these wonderful creatures, and of course ask their “personal assistants” if i may take a picture. The personalities are as different as ours which  DSC_0026just proves how special they are.I met many dogs at the town festival, small ones, huge ones like “Ben”DSC_0074they all had a story of their own.Anthropomorphism is endowing the animals with human emotion, this can be taken to extremes,we treat them like humans,as much as this sounds good i think we do more justice to them by allowing them to be what they are…dogs…and there is nothing wrong with that..in fact i have met far more pleasant dogs than humansImageThere is nothing wrong with giving our dogs a lift up when they need it,and yes we all can talk to our dogs and joke about what they are thinking, but the reality is they are thinking like dogs.Having said this i am a classic example..i love that my dogs are dogs but i still talk to them as if they were human and sometimes make the mistake of thinking they know exactly what i am saying….regarding certain words and actions of course they do, but in a different way.ImageThey see things from a doggie point of view..

We could all take a leaf from our dogs book of life, they are honest ,they do not have agendas, they accept each day for what it brings,if they do not like you they will let you know and when they love you they let you know also. Not all dogs want to run fast, some like to take their time and stop and sniff the roses, some dogs are shy..Imagesome dogs are very outgoing and keen to meet everyone and everything…ImageSome dogs are young and curious..Imageand others have seen a lot of years go by and just enjoy being a spectatorImage…the important thing is they all form part of the fabric of our community and as such i get as much joy from the festivals color and music and food as i do from meeting the dogs that live in our town.

Small town festival

A recent festival in town celebrated all things local, music, art, food and local produce.I found myself watching from the point of view of the dogs.It is funny to watch the interactions.People were laughing ad talking enjoying the beautiful day and meanwhile their pets were having their own interactions, their own meetings, smelling the air.I am always stalking them 🙂
