Last week by the dam i sat..watching as all manner of birds came at late afternoon for some much needed and hard to find water. The place becomes like a real social gathering, many species bickering and socialising all after that precious commodity that we all take for granted..except us in the bush. It is a great way to unwind, i can sit and watch as they fly over head diving in for a dip or a sip..some bathing others chattering to each other.all busy and all seemingly enjoying this afternoon ritual. This day i also spied three roos, what appeared to be a female with two young joeys..they were behind the pile of gorse we had ploughed out and were watching me with interest. The young female joey made her way to the waters edge and i was so hoping they would ignore me and have a drink..she looked at me as if suddenly she realised i was a little too close, i moved backwards closer down the embankment so as to not spook her..but soon all three were off.. I went back to the dams edge, you do not want to be near water if roos are around they can drown you if they feel threatened. Back near the water i spotted in the dam a bee..poor thing buzzing in circles with no way of escape. I do not like to watch something struggle..i can’t do it..so allergic as i am i offered a hand..well not literally! I found a small tree branch and leant over and put it under the bee..i placed it on the muddy ground and watched as the little bee gradually became less waterlogged and dried off.. My eyes were distracted momentarily by the baby snake neck tortoises poking their heads out…i turned back and the bee had buzzed off.. I wish i had seen it take off..but just knowing it had made my day..it takes nothing sometimes but a few seconds of your time to be nice..and the results can change even the smallest lives.
That really IS a social gathering place. ….with the extra added attraction of possibly being attacked by a snake, stung by a bee, or drowned by a roo. I love that you find peace and serenity in this place. If Mom sees a spider, she wants to burn the house down. 🙂
Love and licks,
Cupcake

I so agree, it’s sometimes just the right place we need …. and this place is pure soulcandy, I’m sure. I agree it’s always hard to see animals in need if we can’t help, I rescued a fly yesterday from the bathtub, it’s live too (and it could be the money-fly lol).

Bill is the most unpopular ever in the mail…we laughed as we got our land rates notice telling us “now there is a better way to enjoy paying your rates”…i think the world enjoy is a tad odd hahahaha yes we can’t wait to enjoy spending nearly 3 thousand dollars for bad service and a council that blows your money out their backsides…enjoy must be the new cheesed off hahahaah 🙂 xx

We give them sugared water when we find them exhausted after getting stuck somewhere. Likewise we just can’t leave anything hurt. Have a terrific Tuesday.

If your bees are anything like ours, they need all the help they can get! Between colony collapse and pesticides, bees are struggling these days. You did a good thing, Bev. Gold star for you.

Yes we have started to have issues too..not as bad as the US or CANADA but still they are vital to agri business..despite the heat and the water prices i try really hard to have flowers and veggies her for the bees..i have planted a lot of blue and purple as our Aussie native bee loves these colors..they are an electric blue little bee amazing!! google them they are super sweet 🙂 hugs Bev XX

bev..may your favor be repaid tenfold…I was walking last summer and saw a bumblebee who had got himself turned all upside down and was struggling to right himself…found a leaf and gave him a gentle push and off he went…by the time I was walking on the other side of the street ; I swear the same bumblebee flew past me in a sort of wave….. 🙂
bees in this country are considered to be an endangered species….and sadly I dont think people….get it…when it comes to realizing its a serious issue

I totally agree in rescuing struggling critters. Large or small, big brain small brain…their lives are just as important to them as ours are to us. Unthinkable to callously allow them to die. If I rescue a lady bird out of a bucket 1st thing I count it as a lucky omen. Esp for them!
