Hi guys..i was unable to do a Wild on Wednesday last week..so busy getting things done outside..this week with some ups and downs with Pickles I am doing an early Wild feature…I think we have had so many sad animal stories the last week or so that an early smile and maybe even a squee is called for…
Now I am thrilled with these pictures..they were hard to get..but I was honoured that Mum felt safe enough around me to allow her little babe out of the pouch..this small group has been very close to the house and the day I took them I was actually taking bird pics..when I turned to follow a bird’s flight path I saw below the embankment this family..
Mum was having a snooze…
Until she spotted me..
Of course you may all remember Nicky the little joey I introduced you to before..
Dad went about his grazing..a bit more wary of me than mum and Nicky …
Now mum must have been already holding a new joey in her pouch when I first showed Nicky to you all…
I was beside myself with joy when all of a sudden that pouch started rolling around like a wrestling match was taking place..
I will set the day for you..it was beautifully warm with a gentle breeze..the smell of Eucalypts only faint..birds chirping and flying around..i wonder if the breeze was annoying mum as she seemed to have an itchy ear..
So I settled on the ground..mum still not really concerned…and I sat amongst the dandelions..bees everywhere and allergic as I am we have an agreement..they don’t sting me and I won’t bother them…I waited..covered in grass stains from trying to position myself without worrying the family..and then I was given the greatest present ever…now they are not perfect because i had grasses and trees in my way..and to move around anymore I would have ruined a perfect moment…but if you look closely…
I introduce to you Tippy..new sister or brother to Nicky..this baby fell out of the pouch and stumbled and seemed to have no clue what those giant feet were for..the joey kept falling over and mum kept nudging and grooming him/her..it was one of the most magical times I have had..she felt safe enough to allow this while I was there…amazing…so due to the stumbling and falling I called this little one Tippy…
See the joey ..standing close to mum and looking all around at the big world…it was a perfect spot for a nursery for the big footed babes 🙂
Typical baby ..wanted back in again pretty quick…
And then out again…..
And so that was it..back in…safely in mum’s pouch where you do not need to use the feet ..
And then my battery started to die in the camera…I knew it..so I bid farewell to the family that made my day so special and made me feel like I was privileged to be a part of Tippy’s big day out…and mum even waved goodbye to me too 😉
Have a wonderful week..i hope you all get to feel a part of something magical this week..something that makes you see the beauty close to you…
Tippy is too cute. the second last photo is heartmelting :o) I cross my paws for Nicky and Tippy and all the roo’s that nothing will happen to them. (that’s the difference between kids and adults, kids can enjoy without ifs and but’s )

Easy I agree.. us adults have all the ifs and buts….as long as they are all in the area around our property and the surrounding properties they will thrive..we have numbers t ring if we see a sick or injured roo and ALL neighbours adore them…and I bet mum already has another bub on the go in there 🙂 hugs and loves Fozziemum xxx

What a precious little joey Tippy is! How magic that you were able to get those photos too – obviously Mom is not threatened by your presence and you were rewarded with these great photos (before your battery died!). Thanks for sharing these – my first peek at a baby roo wobbling around exploring his “new” world. If nothing else MAGIC happens to me this week, I’ll have these photos anyway!

I’m so glad you had the magical moment…I wonder what it’s like not to feel grateful when given the gift of that kind of connection with the world around us. I wouldn’t want to live like that.

Neither would I…sadly it is a gift some people never see..not because they don’t open their eyes but because they don’t open their souls…magic is what we need…and everyday is a bonus 🙂 hugs Bev xxx

Beautiful photos Bev, and big welcome to little Tippy. I know the satisfaction of seeing the long earned trust of animals, feeling safe to raise their joeys around us. I had 1 female regular wallaby just outside my back door 1st. thing yesterday grazing with her little joey learning all about grass very close up. I tried getting a pic only to find battery flat too.
A few a.m.s ago I was up wondering around at sun up and following a hungry incessant squawking which I thought was possibly a black cockatoo. On following the sound, I found a trio of those fabulous big birds eating my trees. 1 was a young 1. I love them and worry about the declining numbers so was very happy to see them on the property.
Along with a young heron with parents at my dam.
My regular birds are nesting. Also pheasant coucals which make a fabulous hooping call.
Right now had my pretty male King Parrot eating seed on the deck chased away by a marauding brush turkey.
It is interesting to observe the different modes of behaviour the animals display according to the seasons.
I haven’t seen channel-billed cuckoos or more to the point heard them, yet, but I expect they will noisily fly in soon.

How wonderful 🙂 I took a shot last week of three Yellow tailed Cockatoos..glorious noisy big birds..and how I miss King Parrots…especially the big red headed males..not the right environment for them here..we used to watch them watch around the gazebo roof where we lived before…so beautiful :)..all the bird activity here has gone into overdrive too…at dusk all the welcome swallows go crazy dipping into the dam..love it…best country n the world I think 😉

Funny I was thinking yesterday… we live in the best country of the world.
Right now my beautiful male King Parrot Cha-cha, perched on top of cushion on chair at back door chirping at me he wants more brekky and I keep telling him , there is no point with the turkey there.
They are such intelligent chirpy birds.

Hahaah they are very smart indeed..we still have all the other parrots but not the King..funny the diversity I amazing..bless em )

Yeh, I can’t help having my favourites around here. Most of the birds don’t mind me and go about doing their own thing which is fab, then there are others which choose to relate to me and absorb me into their community as a non flying oddity.
I have been so grateful to be able to observe and learn more about them. 1 which died 2 years ago was even a very special little friend. She was a gey butcherbird, the smartest of all the birds and we had a special bond.

They are much underrated and very smart..we have some little whit plume honeyeaters that had a nest they were working on fall down…I sat it in a fake nest on the verandah nearby ..yesterday one kept going into the fake ne and pulling bits of the old one out and taking them elsewhere..all gone in minutes…they have their ways..and then my nemesis (joking) is Nelson the wagtail ..as in willy nelson…he is the hilter of the birdworld here…seeing him peck a wedgetail on the head and send it on it’s way….gutsy! anywho I must away Pickles has more bloodwork needing to be one this morning at the vets ..have a brilliant day and enjoy the sun 🙂 hugs Bev xx
