I have decided to make my Wednesdays wild…every Wednesday I will post the wildlife I am so very privileged to live with here at home…or in my travels..
The main aim of this blog was to showcase the wildlife and sometimes I get sidetracked…it’s what I love…its what I get my greatest joy from and it is a window into the world from a regular everyday perspective..
Of course the kitties and pups and sheep still have their bloggie..and that’s where the crazy will be 🙂
So as I post these pictures I am happy to try and answer any questions in regards to the animals as best I can…and if I don’t know then I will find out.
Please enjoy todays pictures.. a young mum and her male joey I have been watching recently…and with some patience I was eventually rewarded with what I had been waiting for.. a little on board joey ..mum and the older joey moved towards me…I stayed in the same spot only moving to adjust my seat as it was a bit damp and on stones and grass…she felt clearly comfortable in moving around and was at no time stressed.. she would graze and every now and then check my position…she is but a baby herself and only small.
It is important to understand they are timid creatures and I will always respect their need to feel safe…besides their behaviours are more natural if I allow them to dictate the terms of the encounter.
I had such a lovely time.. the sun was warming my face and the rays were brilliant in how they shone on the roos.. you could not set a shoot up better if you tried lighting wise.. the pups were in the new fenced off backyard and though they barked a bit every now and then.. the Mum was not concerned…she had no reason to be.. we have never allowed the dogs to roam and chase roos…
After over an hour I finished up as needs must.. and things needed doing..i left them to continue their little feast in peace.. another day in my very blessed world.
We think that’s a wild and wonderful idea! Keep them coming Bev 😀

What a Wonderful idea!! I can never get enough of looking at them. Their fur looks like the fur of a chinchilla, thick and soft- is it?

Aww thank you so much 🙂 I was hoping it would be a popular post midweek 🙂 and their fur is thick and soft..not soft like a cat more like a short hair dog 🙂 hugs Bev xx

Beautiful shots Bev and good idea. Is that cootamundra wattle in bloom? My wallaby was grazing nearby yesterday. I hadn’t seen her in a while and had missed her and she has a baby bundle in her pouch. It didn’t pop it’s head out.

Oh how exciting 🙂 another little hide and seeker 🙂 yes it is an sadly they are a weed here…..so it has to go..you do miss them when they go off for awhile..i hope your little bub makes an appearance soon 🙂 and thankyou for the lovely compliment 🙂 hugs Bev xxx

Yeh, I’m hoping the wallabies will feel secure enough to see this area around the house as a safe nursery area where they can let the joeys out to exercise and mums can just relax.
LikeLike
I am sure they will sweets..these guys had the dogs barking in the background and must be used to the fact that they do not roam around…in time I am sure the nursery will be full 🙂 🙂

Yeh they are pretty smart at sussing at their environment and know areas where they can be more secure. I also have a pair now of a fairly rare wallaby. I will have to check what they are. I think she lost a joey last season, it was a bad drought, but I am hoping that she can successfully rear a joey this season.

What kind of Wallaby do you think she is ? around here we have Black face wallabies..but only seen rarely on our property.

These are some of your BEST shots by far. They are simply exquisite. The lighting the poses….they couldn’t be better! I have been pinning like crazy lol. Love the little “Joey” peeking out. I also LOVE what you said right here: “I will always respect their need to feel safe…besides their behaviours are more natural if I allow them to dictate the terms of the encounter.”
I just adore how you respect and savor the beauty that is right in your own back (or front) yard. That is why the Roos visit you, they know you have their best interest in your heart. xoxo

Aww wow what a compliment Caren thank you so much 🙂 the lsun was perfect natures lighting and I had so much fun ..I could have sat there all day..except my butt was getting mighty uncomfy 😉 I think the best way to see nature is in a natural way…I might sneak up but always not to upset their daily routine..the fact she kept coming closer..ever so slightly mind you was lovely..too many nature shots are forced..and I think it shows in the pictures..she was cautious but not scared..i think also it keeps her safe..if I was to start feeding them or ‘taming’ them then they become used to humans and not all humans are pleasant…thank you for pinning like mad hahhaa 🙂 I hope people love them as much as I do and I am sure the roos wonder at this strange creature that is amused by them 😉 and as for the little pouch joey…it had been wrestling around in ther for about 20 minutes..poor mum her tummy looked like jelly wobbling hahaha ..very hard not to squee out loud when he/she popped out 🙂 loves Bev xxxxx

Well after sticking paper in my eyeballs for five minutes ewwwww they said I am not producing anywhere near enough tears..so to prevent long term damage to my cormeas and stop the infections and styes they are going to do Punctal plugs on a few months..this will plug up the ducts and allow the pathetic tears I do produce to collect…eye drops have just made it worse..and he is right our own eyes produce the perfect stuff..i got freaked yesterday because when I swapped eyes on my camera my left eye had the scenery in a blur green tinge…thought my camera had done something..apparently this is ok…have a head ache now but not surprised..after doing the peripheral vision tests I thought my eyeballs would blow up..then when I finished she gave me the tissue box which was covered in spots..i told her that was not really a good choice of pattern bwahahaah 🙂 loves Fozziemum xx

Oh my friend. This is such an ordeal I’m sure! So the bottom line is, we need to make you cry more – 🙂 The more tears and water that comes out of your eyes the better. hhmm – I need to consult with Houdini and his magical skills and perhaps come up with something that will make you laugh so hard that the water falls out of your eyes profusely. Cinnamon and Linda thank you so much 🙂 yes it is a Eucalypt and no they only eat the grasses ..in fact they are trialling strands of Eucalypts in QLD as a barrier to roos coming into farm lands..as they tend to shy away as if perhaps they are toxic to them 🙂 so a natural form of fencing would be a great bonus 🙂 Hugs and loves Fozziemum xx

Bev I just looked up the wallaby and I think she is a swamp wallaby. The more common mobs around here are the greys, but this rare 1 I call Foxy as she is a lovely Autumn russet fox colour with a black stripe along cheeks and black tips. The last couple of weeks is 1st. time I have seen her with a mate and I am hoping for another joey. Somehow she lost last season’s joey. Most disappointing.
I don’t have roos here, but they were very common around town. I’m not so sure they are now with housing development squeezing them out.
Tomorrow I am going away to stay at a beautiful eco resort for a few days. It is ridiculously cheap and 1 of the main attractions for me is the huge roos casually lying around the place, the size of cows! Lots of wallabies, water birds on the lakes, fab. forest walks. Cute very communal, little country place with a little market.

Ah Swamp wallaby 🙂 I do hope she keeps her babe this time..she may have been under nourished herself from drought and just a babe herself too..she sounds beautiful 🙂 funny the grey roos here are quite red in colour more than grey in some mobs….enjoy your trip sounds divine 🙂 and I am sure ou will have great photo ops 😉 hugs Bev xx
