A side order of Ribs….Marbles vet visit

Ok I am an idiot..Marbles was taken to the vet this morning…we arrived after some changing of times as the Weekend vet Dr Nadia Wong was called to a Pony with colic..then our appointment was changed back as sadly the poor pony had died before the vet could make it…
I was waiting with Marbles who never even sang the song of her people once..not once and was happy to watch Wonkin the surgery kitty strut his stuff.
Another doggy with a sore paw..and then my heart broke..a family carrying their poor pup out in a blanket..he had gone to the rainbow bridge.of course I start snivelling and gave a look of ‘I understand’ to the poor pups owner as she stood there in tears with her doggy..the vet counsellor came up to me and said hello to Marbles..i told her I was teary for the poor doggies owners.she said how sad it was and that the vets tried everything but he needed to come in earlier..his owners just didn’t realise that..
So the vet calls us in…within in two seconds she smiled and said..
“It’s her rib you can feel! she has the same here on her chest have a feel..i can see why you thought what you did as the other rib is not as pronounced”
So a check of her weight revealed that she has lost 100grams since her last yearly check up which is good as she is a little…well… hubby calls her an Armadillo!
Marbles had her yearly and boarding vacc’s done so that is over and she has more meds for her arthritis which she showed the vet she was in pain with..
So I am relieved and I had felt a little like an Idiot..however I will remember the sadness of the people who today lost their doggy when an earlier visit may have saved it’s life..perhaps being hypervigilant is good..
So the next visit for my darling old girl will be in a few months for a dental visit…a clean and good look..her teeth are not as the vet said in a state that means she is in pain but they will need to be done sooner rather than later..next pet to visit the vets will be Pickles..then Dinnermintz then Forrest then Cleo..unless something unforseen happens to change the order!
It was lovely that we needed a new Booklet for her paperwork as we had a full one..this of course says to me that we have had our darling for 13 years..of vaccinations and check ups..and that is a great thing..
So I thank you all for your POTP your concern and your love for our girl..and when I have cooked dinner and fed all the animals I will personally reply to your lovely comments..

So anyone for an order of ribs??

  2. Well I’m so happy to hear Marbles is OK – and it truly IS good that we notice things and follow up on them no matter HOW they turn out in the end (tee hee) – but at least you know that lump on Marbles is a rib next time your dancing fingers locate it!! Sad about the people with the pup who didn’t make it but it just points out the importance of not hesitating if there’s something not RIGHT – we know that first before anyone else does since we know our babies so well…….but this time I’m glad it wasn’t YOU who had the sadness to get through. Sending hugs and do I phone in my order for ribs? Can’t you stuff them in a box and just send them??? Hmm?????

    Hugs, Sammy

  3. Marbles looks embarrassed for you, but we are all YAY! Mom has had me in to the vet for a “lump” twice, back when she first got me. Both were body parts (glands near my tail and my thyroid), so you’re not alone. I was embarrassed for Mom, too.

    • Thanks my darling indeed it is..i was reminded after the sadness in the waiting room today that any change needs a visit…best to be a dill or a putz than a grieving owner..sadly all to poignant today….I am greatful also our clinic has grief counsellors and a mourning room..just a kind word today when I felt already nervous and then to see this mum dad and three littlies dealing with their loss..well it got to me…still gots wine???? huhs and loves and thank you again my darlin 🙂 Bev xxx

      • Yep still gots wine.. wine time 4pm under the Oaks!
I understand it getting to you Bev. I had some sad with respect to kitties Wednesday and Thursday, won’t go there, but sometimes you just can’t get past it. I have never had a vet that had grief counselors or a mourning room. Thoughtful idea.. I would like to see that in my bit of country.

        • Oh sweets I am sorry and yes I have not gone back to fostering due to some things you cannot let go of..it is a great idea..to have recognition that it is not ‘just’ an animla you have lost is important and a room to talk amd cry and be heard is brilliant..i think more and more vets are doing it..ours is sort of at the forefront of a lot of things..the owner makes and sells his own pet food and supplements ..so a great place to be if you need the best for your pets..and I would have a wine with you any day ..boots up on a table…

  5. What a day… but it’s much better to be there for a rib than to walk in the shoes of that pet parents who lost their furkid. I hope nothing will happen what makes an extra vet-visit essential. Paws are crossed for a quiet time in down under :o) I would like some ribs I can show to that judge-guy, of course :o)

  6. I’m hoping that you get a multi-animal discount at the vet like we do. It still adds up quickly…$200 the other day for Ginger to get blood work, a shot for her arthritis and some anti-inflammatories. Yeesh.
Sympathy grief at the vets…yup. Been there done that.
The ribs look delish…be right over. save some for me.

    • We do usually we take all the girls at once..but this time we have had to spread it out.the fencing being huge cost but totally vital before the spring summer starts..Doc’s visit was 340 dollars and this was 109…the dental workup will be 400 and we still have Forrest,Pickles (who needs the same dental work up) and Cleo to go….it does add up..but we try and budget for emergencies..the sympathy grief is awful 😦 I shall save some ribs..delish 😉 hugs Bev xx

  8. YEA!!! WHOOOOHOOOO!! this is indeed good news! I am reminded of when Ma brought me into the vettie cause I was havin’ trouble getting up, and Ma said ‘look at these lumps on her hindquarters!” and the vettie smiles and says, yes, those are her muscles…duh! the vettie did say they looked big, butts probably cause I had been walkin’ lots and was all buffed up! BOL He said I was just probably sore, and gave some doggie pain relievers and sent us on our way.
Anyhu, better to be safe and look like an idiot, Ma always says! (yeah, not a stretch there!! hehehe)
How sad for the doggie’s owners. Ma would have started leaking too if she saw that!
Okays, now how abouts those BBQ ribs??!! yummers!
    Kisses,

    • Muscly Ruby ..what a gal! and yes us peeps are goofballs but indeed better safe than heart broken..it was very sad and i think any animal lovers would start dripping like a tap…the poor counsellor thought i was upset about Marbles …..i had to explain it was sympathy bawling…sheesh…now the ribs…sticky Asian beef ribs coming up! hugs and loves Fozziemum xxx<3 ❤

    • Indeed we are so relieved..they have a separate entrance which goes out from the mourning room i have no idea why these people did not use it..the counsellor was there as well so they had all the right things in place to be of the least distress for the owners..maybe they were in shock..i know i would be using the other exit as i could not bear it…:(

  9. You can’t be too careful we always say. We too feel sorry for the doggy’s owners. Our humans have been in that situation with a couple of our angels and now they are very vigilant. We are super glad Marbles is okay. Hope she got a taste of those ribs. They look amazing. XO, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

  12. So glad to hear that all is OK! I’ve done this both ways….gone in for things that turned out to be nothing, and let things go that turned out to be something I shouldn’t have let go. I think we all know which is better, so you should not feel foolish at all.
It’s probably because she lost that weight, that you could now feel her ribs…which is definitely a good thing!

    • I agree Jan..we lost a Rottie whose liver went in two days and missed very very subtle signs..broke our hearts and left us with unimaginable guilt..so i tend to err on the side of caution..it is great she has lost some weight as she has arthritis and any extra weight is not good…i just wish the rib didn’t frighten the bejeebies out of me!! hugs Bev

    Ok over to Mum :
Hi Bev, I think hypervigilance is far better than that whole 'wait & see' til the 4 legged is 2 steps from death! I saw that this week also as we were there twice. Now the people were not BED as such; they just did not think to check things out & it cost their 4 leggeds their lives. There is only so much a Vet can do when the window of opportunity is closing…
I am sorry about the pony with Colic; that is one nasty & sneaky condition that can sneak up & an Equine can be gone in the blink of an eye…they really are fragile animals in their own way…
I am glad Marbles is all right for another year.
    Hopefully no more surprises….lol….
    Love Sherri-Ellen
P.S.: My cat is a smart *ss!!!!! 😉

  15. OMP! How did I miss this my friend?! Kicking myself in the butt – or I might just let Hemi swat me there. Poor Marbles. Lots of ❤ to kitty. Poor baby with arthritis. It's so very sad to go to the vets office sometimes – especially after hours – to see all of the dear sweet babies in need. My mom would have surely cried with you there. Please give Marbles hogs and snout kisses for me for a speedy recovery. XOXO – Bacon
P.S. 🙂 Those are beef ribs right? Snorts – daddy says they look wonderful and he is licking his lips.

  16. Good things about Marbles! Me, I panic first, ask for forgiveness later. I took Vito to the vet last year because he was cuddly. Vito was never cuddly, so it was an obvious symptom of something… or so I thought.

    • Hahaah yep sounds like me…freak out then relax..and yes if a non cuddler starts cuddling something must be up! I would have hot footed it to the vet too 🙂 and yes very relieved that Marbles was fine..who would know under that chubs she had a rib:)
